PA IBHS training: BHT or BHT-ABA?
Start with the service the person provides, their prior experience and your agency’s training plan. Job titles alone do not determine which rule applies. Confirm the person’s requirements with your OMHSAS licensing representative.
Compare the service requirements
This is an orientation, not an eligibility or compliance determination. Other rules, substitutions and service settings may apply.
Plan the first months and the ongoing year
For a person who has not previously provided BHT services, the initial topics and timing are addressed in 55 Pa. Code § 5240.73(c)–(d): at least 30 hours of Department-approved training before independent service, and a separate 24 hours within the first six months of providing BHT services. Section 5240.83(d) directs BHT-ABA training to those provisions and the coursework substitution provision.
The annual requirements depend on services and the individual plan. Review approval, the person’s job functions, evidence and any applicable certification or licensure rules with the licensing representative. Do not assume any course or prior hours qualify automatically.

Considering a team purchase?
The PA IBHS ten-seat recording pack is $890 once for up to ten staff, with 17 recordings and slides, and six months per seat from setup. It documents training clock hours, not BACB continuing-education credit. It does not by itself establish completion of initial training; ask your clinical lead and licensing representative how the sessions fit each role.
