PA BHT first six months: training plan
Use this printable planning aid to organize the topic list for an individual who has not previously provided behavior health technician services. This sheet does not certify hours, approve a training or replace your agency’s training plan.
Start with the individual’s dates

For this group, 55 Pa. Code § 5240.73(d) specifies at least 24 hours of Department-approved training within the first six months of providing BHT services. Confirm the applicable rule, training approvals and deadline with your OMHSAS licensing representative.
The separate initial requirement is at least 30 hours of Department-approved training before providing services independently. Use the new-hire training record to plan those initial topics.
Map the six-month topics
For each topic, enter the planned course or provider, the completion date, and where the evidence can be found. Review actual hours rather than adding the same hours twice when a course addresses more than one topic.
